On Friday, Dane County Assistant District Attorney Emily Thompson upgraded the charges against Cameron J. Mikutis, 18, to include homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.  Mikutis also is charged with causing great bodily harm by intoxicated use of a vehicle and drunken driving causing injury.

According to the criminal complaint, Toree and Dylan J. Dotson, 18, of Madison were pinned in the back seat of the vehicle after it struck a parked pickup truck then hit a tree. Dotson, who suffered head trauma, a collapsed lung, damaged kidneys and spleen and a herniated aorta, remains at UW Hospital, where his condition is good.

According to the complaint, Mikutis told police he was speeding at about 60 mph when he lost control of the 1998 Chevrolet Mailbu. In as statement to police, Mikutis said he had “a few” beers.  He told staff at the hospital that he had drunk “a bunch.”
